Tempered/Safety
Glass Crumbles into small harmless
nuggets with blunt edges. Tempered glass is required if
window is in a shower or bath stall area.
Low-E Low-E Glass is for Low-Emissivity.
The glass is coated on the inside of the outside pane with 2
microscopically thin, optically transparent layers of silver
sandwiched between layers of anti-reflective metal oxide
coatings. Low-E patented coating blocks 84 percent of the
sun's harmful ultraviolet rays and delivers a 96 percent
performance improvement in winter nighttime insulation
(R-value) compared to non-coated insulated glass. Low-E is
virtually invisible to the naked eye.
Argon
Gas An odorless, colorless, harmless
gaseous chemical element placed inside between the two panes
of glass. Argon molecules are heavier than oxygen and thus
move slower. Because they move slower they also transmit heat
and cold slower; however, the best benefit for many is sound
abatement; it's quieter.
Obscure
Glass Typically used for bathroom
windows. It's frosted as not to see clearly in or out.
Grids Gives the illusion of smaller
window panes within a window. The grids are placed inside,
between the two panes of glass, making it easy for
cleaning.
Full Screens Required only if you want to
open both top and bottom of a double hung window at the same
time or both sides of a 2-lite roller window at the same time.
